Santa Killer Cop

Hi guys,

as some of you may know, I live in Athens Greece
and for the past few days it has been all hell let loose.

The event that started it all was a murder, a cop that shot
a 15 year old kid in cold blood through the heart.

This piece is sort of a satirical tribute, showing that the ones causing the mayhem are actually the cops that have sworn to protect us.

After the events a cycle of peaceful marches and riots started. People were doing damage to the city of Athens and the media tried were trying to blame it on the demonstrators, something we knew was only partly true.

Finally somebody had the balls and showed a picture of masked men with clubs talking peacefully with cops, confirming the public's suspicion that it was the government's job.

RIP Alexis

About 4 hours. Sketch on paper, scanned, Photoshop.

Chaos - Lava Marine

Hello guys,

This is an image I made for a series of lessons for Binary Divinity (www.binarydivinity.com).

The lessons show the progress from cube to fully textured, sculpted, rendered head.

I show the whole process in a 20+ hour real-time series of videos while narrating my every thought and process.
From concept to completion.

We explore modeling techniques
for:
easy and fast head production,
head texturing (normal, mutated and lava covered, in photoshop and zapplin),
sculpting (freestyle and based on texture detail),
model and utility map exporting (normal, cavity, displacement) and finally
rendering (displacement, sss, lighting, final gather settings)

Various stages and the final models,
textures are included in the lesson for further study and manipulation. Useful for both game and film cg.

This isn't a very strong piece of art, but while talking and showing the whole process without skipping steps I sacrificed some freedom and experimentation so I consider it done and cool for the purpose it was made for.

I use Photoshop, 3dsmax, zbrush and mental ray. Some post in photoshop.

Check out my website at: www.koyima.com
Also check out www.binarydivinity.com for the Downloadable Lessons if you are interested.

Thanx

This is a rework of an older media piece we did for the game. I used photoshop to make the lighting which didn't exist in the first pick. I added cloth, wear and tear the smoke (which looks a bit "airbrushy").

I played with the levels of the image to make it more "3d" and I also got ridof the grainy look the original had.

All in all it took me about 2hours to make this look better. But ofcourse at the time we were on a tight deadline. Some of my fellow colleagues believe that the first one had a different spookier mood (which is true). Somebody even suggested a mix, but i think I'm not going to revisit this one again.

Crits are always welcome though (cos you know I only stopped cos it isn't worth it, not because it's perfect)

Fat Guy Waxy

A waxy guy.

I made this using 3dsmax for the base mesh, photshop for the texturing, zbrush for some sculpting and mental ray to render him.

I used the sss fast skin shader. It still needs tweaking since my backscatter layer hasn't really been worked on, but i like the waxy-silicone look he has.

CnC is welcome although i think I know what I have to fix to get rid of the wax look. And I'm working on a shader for the eyes, currently it's just a simple material with a color(diff) map.
